Being a lifelong learner is a trait that is really important to me, and I know that a good education is not just for the schoolyard. Some lessons were learned in the traditional way, while others I have received from professional mentors, while working and in some cases, friends and family.

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY
What surrounds us, affects our state of mind. When designing a residential space, it should reflect the client and the feeling you aspire for when you walk into the room. Rigors of life can take a toll on an individual and a family, so making the space feel like a safe haven, a resort, or a getaway is the ideal way to design. If one doesn't feel at ease or feels uncomfortable in the space, something needs to change. It’s the same sentiment when designing a commercial space. However, the space should reflect what the business stands for and how customers should feel in the space.
When I am designing a space, I tend to choose more traditional and classic architecture with tidbits of contemporary design so that the timeless character flows into the style trends of today. It helps to make the space look and feel natural, like it was always meant to be designed that way, while also being bold and exciting. Most times, I find that if you take it literally, keep it natural, and use the outdoor environment surrounding the space in your design choices, it helps connect you to the land and help you and/or your company feel connected to the community.
As long as the space is functional, encourages to “work smarter, not harder,” and feels like your client and what they believe in. It is the right kind of design. The personal kind.
The kind that speaks to people, tells them who or what they could be; and the kind that makes you excited to live your best life.
